BABCOCK ELEVATED STORAGE TANK
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
The SAWS elevated water tank and service road project is located southwest of the intersection of Babcock Road and Horn Boulevard. Arias provided geotechnical engineering services for tank and roadway design in 2008 and provided construction materials testing services in 2009 and 2010. The project included construction of a 2,500,000-gallon capacity, composite, water tank and an asphalt service road. The composite tank was to be 160-feet high, with a pedestal diameter of 54 feet. The 20-feet wide service road, entering the site from Horn Boulevard and extending to a turnaround just northwest of the tank location was constructed of asphaltic concrete paving with curb. Arias explored stratigraphic and groundwater conditions at three locations for the tank and at one location for the service road. Arias’ geotechnical engineer selected samples recovered from the field exploration for laboratory testing to evaluate engineering soil properties.
During construction, Arias performed materials testing for Landmark Structures to verify that the construction and materials met project specifications.
