Calaveras Dam No. 8 Modifications
BEXAR COUNTY, TEXAS
The Rehabilitation of Calaveras Dam No. 8 project included modifications to meet the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) standard for existing dams of high hazard classification. Plans were to raise the dam crest to Elevation (El.) 534.2 feet so that the dam is capable of handling the 100 Percent Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) caused by the Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP). Plans also included: (1) re-grading the existing emergency spillways located to the east and west of the dam to El. 527.2 feet, (2) constructing berms to redirect sheet-flow runoff to the existing reservoir, and (3) replacing the existing plunge pool associated with the principle drop inlet structure with a modified more erosion-resistant pool.
