John Hoffman Elementary School
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
Arias provided geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services for John Hoffman Elementary School between 2007 and 2009. Development plans included an approximately 80,000 square foot school building consisting of one-story, two-story, and one-story high roof areas as well as surface parking and site access drives. Geotechnical exploration to evaluate subsurface conditions consisted of drilling and sampling at 13 locations. Soil properties were evaluated by laboratory testing on samples selected by the geotechnical engineer.During construction, we monitored earthwork operations during installation of the engineered fill pad and performed field and laboratory testing to verify that the materials and their placement met the project plans and specifications. Field testing to verify properties of concrete placed for foundations, slabs, and paving was performed; we returned field-cast test specimens to our laboratory to verify that the specified concrete strength was achieved. We monitored installation of the school foundations. We provided special inspections as required.
